Illusions, Delusions

RCA TV burned late in the night

All four channels were in black and white

Movies and sit-coms, they’d shine thru the screen

To create an illusion, the American Dream

(Chorus)

Illusions, delusions I live in a dream

Learned about love on a black and white screen

My love lasts forever

But we’re not together tonight.

At her little white house, it was just after dark

We sat on the front porch.  I played my guitar.

We sang corny old songs sometimes off key

Like an old fashion picture show love fantasy.

Her hand on my shoulder.  Stars in the sky.

Touched by an angel.  Tears in my eyes.

My love lasts forever

But we’re not together    tonight.

(Chorus optional)

So I pop an old movie in my VCR

And try to forget that things are what they are

But the movie is just an illusion of light

An attempt to believe “It’s a Wonderful Life”

(Chorus)

One day as a child alone in my room

I punched holes in black paper, cut a hole for the moon.

Stepped in the closet held it up to the light

Creating illusions of stars in the night

It works well on paper but out in the light

The real world is more than just black and white

Those stars are still shining

But we’re not together    tonight

Chorus (repeat last line three times)
